This week, year 4 are going to continue with the theme of myths and legends to go alongside their class novel, Beowulf. This week’s writing focuses on an exciting video called ‘Dragon Slayer’. The children will be having a go at some different style of writing, including writing instructions, changing the narrator and writing a sequel. In grammar, they will be revising fronted adverbials which they will then be able to use in their writing. In maths this week, the children will be using the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics videos to explore fractions. For science, they will be continuing their topic on sound by investigating volume, in geography they will be finding out about the seaside town Llandudno, in RE they will be looking at baptism ceremonies and in PE they will be trying out some footwork skills. This week they will also be starting a two-week art project to create a 3D shoebox-sized Henri Rousseau painting!
This week in maths, year 6 will be focusing on honing their problem solving skills: working systematically, finding all possible answers and explaining their reasoning. In English, they will start the week with a comprehension based on the book The Last Wild and will then continue with their spooky mystery stories based on ‘Alma’. This week’s science lesson looks at human evolution and in history the children will find out more about the Vikings as traders and explorers. In French, the children will learn to talk about what they enjoy doing at break time. In PSHE, they will be investigating the effect of different drugs on the body and completing the second part of the British Red Cross first aid programme. Finally, in art they will be creating a surrealist masterpiece of their own!
This week, year 4 will continue with their learning on fractions in maths. In English, they will start the week with a comprehension about gladiators with the opportunity to do some further research on them. In grammar, they will be finding out about collective nouns. Year 4’s writing this week will be based on a short animation entitled ‘Catch It’; they will be using this to write descriptions and a report on meerkats. In science, the children will be investigating how distance affects sound, in RE they will be finding out about Hinduism, in PE they will be learning some gymnastics skills and in art they will be looking at Andy Goldsworthy. Finally, this week they will be doing some French and computing: in French they will learn the names of the colours and in computing they will be finding out how the internet and search engines work.
This week, Year 4 will be looking at fractions in different contexts.
This week, Year 4 will be comparing fractions in maths. In English they will be doing a range of activities based on current events and thinking about moving on to Year 5. In science, they have a fun but challenging design project to try. In RE they are finding out about why people get married, and they will also be doing some music, French and computing.
