This week in Year 2 the children will start their Maths sessions, on Monday, by taking part in a basic skills activity. This will cover all strands of the maths curriculum and will provide the children the opportunity to practise everything they have learnt so far in Year 2. The remainder of the week will then be focussed on place value. Each day the children will have an interactive power point to work through and can end the session by solving a ‘Problem of the Day’. The children can also practise their times tables by using TTRockstars.

 In English, the children will start every session by reading for 10 minutes and practising their spellings. There has been a link to Oxford Owl provided that has a great range of fiction and non-fiction books. On Monday, the children will play 2 spellings games from the sheet provided and take part in a Shared Reading session presented by Mr Pickering. On Tuesday, the children will practise using possessive apostrophes. There is a power point provided that helps the children understand when they are used and there is a worksheet provided for your child to work through. On Wednesday, the children have been given a reading comprehension called ‘Birds in Your Garden’. Next, on Thursday, the children have the opportunity to practise their writing skills by following the link to a short film. The children can write their own adventure story to space! Finally, on Friday, the children will take part in another shared reading session.

In Computing, the children will look at how to stay safe online by watching episode 2 about Jessie, Mo and Tia and how they learn that pictures can be shared more widely than you would first expect! In Science the children will learn all about plants and find out all the different parts of the plant and their functions. Finally, in Design Technology the children will build a rocket based on their English work from the morning! Can they make a 3D model? Make sure to get your child to send us a picture of the finished product!

This week in Year 2 the children will start their Maths sessions, on Monday, by taking part in a basic skills activity. This will cover all strands of the maths curriculum and will provide the children the opportunity to practise everything they have learnt so far in Year 2.  For the remainder of the week we will continue with Place Value (i.e. what each digit in a number is worth) and move on to comparing numbers using ‘less than’, ‘greater than’ and ‘equal to’. By the end of the week we will have moved on to addition and revising our pairs of numbers that make e.g. 20. Each day the children will have an interactive power point to work through and can end the session by challenging themselves with a ‘Problem of the Day’. The children can also practise their times tables by using TTRockstars.

 In English, the children will start every session by reading for 10 minutes and practising their spellings. There has been a link to Oxford Owl provided that has a great range of fiction and non-fiction books. On Monday, the children will play 2 spellings games from the spelling game sheet provided in our folder and take part in a Shared Reading session of The Worst Witch, presented by Mr Pickering. On Tuesday the children will practise their grammar by joining sentences with conjunctions. On Wednesday, linking with our Summer Term Science topic of Plants, the children will start to plan their writing about their own magical plant. Next, on Thursday, the children have the opportunity to do some creative writing by writing a letter to Mrs Newiss, Mr Pickering or Mrs Williamson telling them all about this wonderful magical plant! Don’t forget to include those conjunctions you practised on Tuesday!  Finally, on Friday, the children will take part in another shared reading session of The Worst Witch as well as completing a comprehension all about Sunflowers.

In Science, as part of our topic on Plants, we will be learning about bulbs and seeds. Do you know the difference? On Wednesday, for Geography, the children will be learning to identify the continents of the world. Finally, for Art the children can create an observational drawing of a plant that they might find either on a walk, in their house or garden. They could take their drawing materials outside just as a real artists do!

This week in Year 2 the children will start their Maths sessions, as previously, by taking part in a basic skills activity. This will cover all strands of the maths curriculum and will provide the children the opportunity to practise everything they have learnt so far in Year 2.  For the remainder of the week we will work towards using the inverse to check our calculations and help with solving new problems (the inverse is the opposite, so the inverse of addition is subtraction). On Wednesday we will develop the ‘comparing numbers’ work from last week using ‘less than’, ‘greater than’ and ‘equal to’. By the end of the week we will have moved on to working with ‘related facts’ (i.e. if we know 4+5 = 9, what will 40+ 50 = ?  Finally, on Friday we will be practising our number bonds to 100. Each day the children will have an interactive power point to work through and can end the session by challenging themselves with a ‘Problem of the Day’. The children can also practise their times tables by using TTRockstars.

On Tuesday the children will practise their grammar by using commas in a list.  On Wednesday the children will be practising using bossy or Imperative verbs in preparation for writing a set of instructions about how to look after a plant on the Thursday, linked to our Science topic. Finally, on Friday, the children will read books using the oxford owl website.

 In Science, as part of our topic on Plants, we will be thinking about what a plant needs to grow. Have you noticed how some areas have lots of plants growing and some have very few? Why is this?  For Geography, the children will be will continue to learn about the continents of the world and compare them to cities and countries. The children can also learn about the Aboriginal Culture, the first people to live in Australia. Finally for Art , the children will be able to explore the symbols that are used in Aboriginal Art and have a go for themselves.

Each day the children will have an interactive power point to work through and can end the session by challenging themselves with a ‘Problem of the Day’. On Tuesday the children will practise their grammar by creating adjectives by adding the suffixes -er and -est.  On Wednesday the children will watch the video all about the Northern Territory in Australia and write facts about Australian animals. They then continue to research different aspects of Australia and create a fact file. Finally, on Friday, the children will read books using the oxford owl website and complete a comprehension.

 As part of our topic on Australia, we will start the week by drawing different Australian plants. For Science, the children will discover how seeds germinate. The children can also learn about the geography of Australia and create some Aboriginal art.

This will cover all strands of the maths curriculum and will provide the children the opportunity to practise everything they have learnt so far in Year 2.  For the remainder of the week we will be completing our addition and subtraction unit and moving on to money. Each day the children will have an interactive power point to work through and can end the session by challenging themselves with a ‘Problem of the Day’. The children can also practise their times tables by using TTRockstars.

 In English, the children will start every session by reading for 10 minutes and practising their spellings. On Tuesday the children will learn about contractions and how to use them when writing.  On Wednesday the children will learn about different types of questions and have a go at a fun quiz! They then continue to learn about Australia and get to write a postcard pretending that they are enjoying a lovely holiday there. Finally, on Friday, the children will read books using the oxford owl website and complete a comprehension based on Marcus Rashford.

On Monday the children will take part in a Science session where they will discover how plants reproduce. As part of our topic on Australia, they will spend Tuesday learning all about Sydney – where it is and what makes it special? On Wednesday, the children will spend more time on Aboriginal painting. They will then end their topic lessons for the week by taking part in a music session and learning some new songs!

 On Monday, the children will take part in Science. They will learn all about the lifecycle of an apple tree! On Wednesday and Thursday, they will focus on our Australia topic by learning all about life in Australia and continuing work on Aboriginal masks. The children will then finish the week by taking part in an amazing music lesson!
